The Georgian Bay Symphony Welcomes New Music Director - Jeffrey Pollock

After a year-long audition process, the Georgian Bay Symphony is proud to announce the appointment of Jeffrey Pollock, conductor of our Fall 2023 Halloween Concert, as our new Music Director.

The Georgian Bay Symphony is proud to announce that Jeffrey Pollock has accepted the position of Music Director. Jeffrey Pollock will bring a new energy and artistic vision to the GBS Symphony.  He excited both the audience and orchestra with his performance at our October concert. Jeffrey will be starting his fourth season with Sinfonia Ancaster, a community orchestra in Hamilton, and has previously held conducting positions with the North Carolina, Fort Worth and Toledo Symphony Orchestras.

He is a graduate of the Peabody Conservatory with a Master of Music in Conducting. Jeffrey understands the powerful role an orchestra can play in a community and is committed to developing a symphony orchestra that reflects the character of its community and celebrates the shared experience of live performance.

As Music Director, Pollock will provide leadership through conducting, programming, planning, and community involvement.  He will also encourage musicians to express their musical talents and help build relationships with the musicians, donors, audience, and other musical and educational organizations in the region. He will be expected to help the orchestra reach its goals as stated in the new Strategic Plan Georgian Bay Symphony 2030.

The Georgian Bay Symphony is a community orchestra located in Owen Sound and is one of the premiere arts organizations in the Grey Bruce region. Over 50 local musicians play in the orchestra. Along with a Music Director the Symphony employs a Business Manager and five part-time string players. The orchestra is the past recipient of the Ontario Arts Council’s Vida Penee Award. Over the last three years the GBS has experienced significant increases in attendance at concerts. The Symphony looks forward to an exciting season under the baton of Jeffery Pollock.
