49th Virtual Season 2020-21
Six digital concerts delivered directly to your home. The season included familiar music you love as well as a surprise guest or two, interviews, pre-concert talks, and behind the scenes videos.
Brass Fanfare (October 24th) Our brass players pull out all the stops with trumpet duos, trombone and brass quartets, a tuba solo and the entire brass ensemble performing a pieces arranged by Canadian tubist and composer Scott Irvine.
A Trip To Europe (November 28th) Since we have all be home for so long, our string players want to take you on a musical vacation. Join them as they perform works by the great European masters: Mozart, Bartok and more.
Christmas Karaoke (December 19th) Listen to excerpts from the Nutcracker, some beautiful seasonal harp music featuring our guest, harpist Christina Kant, and follow the bouncing ball and sing along at home with carol karaoke.
Woodwinds are Wild (February 13th 2021) This concert will feature a flute and a woodwind quintet along with an oboe trio, a clarinet quartet, and strings. Works by Purcell, Bach, Mozart and Beethoven. We are pleased to perform a short chamber piece composed by Indigenous project group, Unsettled Scores.
Chopin In March (March 27, 2021) Our guest will be pianist Kati Gleiser performing Chopin’s Piano concerto no. 1 in E minor with our Principal strings. And since it is March, there will be marches by Strauss Sr., Schubert and Elga,r just to add some Pomp and Circumstances to the occasion.
Francois and Friends (May 15, 2021) Things will be as hot as a Habanera as the GBS takes a bit out of Bizet’s Carmen. And Maestro Koh will pick up his guitar as he joins various orchestra members in a series of duets. An added bonus will be a virtual composition by composer Dr. Daniel Mehdizadeh, commissioned and performed by the GBS.
